Job Requirements
- Must possess a minimum of an eighth-grade education
- Must be at least 18 years old or have a valid work permit
- Ability to understand the English language
- Ability to make independent decisions and follow instructions
- Ability to deal tactfully with others
- Maintain care and use of equipment and supplies
- Willingness to work harmoniously with others and residents
- Ability to learn and incorporate new housekeeping methods
- Ability to follow instructions regarding chemicals and disinfectants
- Ability to report relevant information about resident conditions
- Must not pose a direct threat to health or safety
- Must be able to move intermittently during work
- Must be able to communicate in English
- Must cope with mental and emotional stress
- Must possess adequate sight/hearing or use appropriate prosthetics
- Must function independently with personal integrity
- Must meet facility health requirements including medical exam
- Must work with ill, disabled, emotionally upset, or hostile individuals
- Must be able to lift and move at least 25 pounds
- May be required to assist in emergency evacuations

Job Duties
- Ensure that work/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical
- Report all accidents/incidents to supervisor immediately
- Coordinate daily housekeeping services with nursing services in resident areas
- Attend departmental and staff meetings
- Perform tasks according to daily work assignments
- Participate in department studies and projects
- Attend in-service and OSHA/CDC training
- Follow established fire safety, safety precautions, and proper use of safety equipment
- Maintain assigned work areas clean, safe, and comfortable
- Keep work areas free of hazardous objects
- Follow proper chemical mixing and disinfecting procedures
- Report hazardous conditions and equipment
- Use personal protective equipment when handling infectious materials
- Follow handwashing and sanitation procedures
- Dispose of refuse per sanitation policies
- Coordinate isolation cleaning with nursing services
- Maintain housekeeping supply levels and report needs
- Report equipment malfunctions
- Assist with equipment and supply maintenance
- Clean work carts and properly store equipment
- Perform daily housekeeping functions including cleaning, polishing, sanitizing, trash disposal, and carpet cleaning
- Respect resident rights by maintaining confidentiality and knocking before entering rooms
- Report found articles to supervisor
- Work in all facility areas
- Communicate effectively with personnel and residents
- Work beyond normal hours and during emergencies as needed
- Attend continuing education programs
- Safely lift objects and assist in resident evacuation when necessary.
