Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • previous experience working with homeless populations or similar at-risk groups
  • ability to work overnight weekend shifts from 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM on Saturdays and Sundays
  • capable of occasionally ascending/descending stairs, moving equipment weighing up to 25 lbs, and remaining in a stationary position 50 percent of the time
  • reliable transportation or means to reach the Roxbury, MA job location
  • occasional daytime availability for trainings, meetings, and obligations
  • strong communication and crisis management skills

Job Qualifications

  • previous work with homeless individuals and/or families, disabilities or other at-risk populations
  • ability to work alone and handle crises with good judgment, adequate communication skills both written and oral
  • effective interpersonal skills
  • strong organizational skills
  • basic physical fitness to perform the required physical tasks

Job Duties

  • manages the operations of the program during the day
  • responsible for admitting residents as they enter shelter with Heading Home, and ensuring the appropriateness of each resident for placement at the shelter
  • responsible for making supplies available, including food for the residents’ snacks and lunches
  • reads and updates staff logs with any and all-important information that occurs during their shift
  • maintains appropriate logs of evening and weekend activities
  • attends scheduled staff meetings
  • adheres to all agency and program policies, procedures and rules
  • performs other tasks as assigned by Program Coordinator
