Job Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks
  • Manual dexterity to handle kitchen tools and equipment
  • Agility and flexibility to move safely within the kitchen
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
  • Previous experience working as a cook in a relevant setting
  • Understanding of dietary needs for seniors
  • Strong organizational skills

Job Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a cook in a professional kitchen preferably in senior living or healthcare
  • Knowledge of nutrition and dietary requirements for elderly population
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation regulations
  • Culinary training or certification is desirable but not mandatory
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook meals according to approved menus ensuring dietary needs are met
  • Adhere to portion control standards to minimize food waste
  • Modify recipes to accommodate special dietary restrictions such as low-sodium, diabetic-friendly or pureed diets
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen workspace following food safety guidelines
  • Inspect and rotate food supplies regularly to ensure freshness
  • Assist with inventory management including stock monitoring and order placing
  • Collaborate with dietary team to plan menus and communicate with residents for feedback and preferences
