Job Requirements

  • Must be at least sixteen years old (at least 21 years old to serve alcoholic beverages)
  • previous experience in restaurant or customer service preferred
  • successful completion of restaurant training course
  • high school diploma or GED preferred or currently enrolled
  • ability to work all shifts including weekends and holidays
  • excellent communication skills
  • physical ability to stand and walk for up to eight hours
  • ability to lift trays and items weighing up to 40 pounds
  • closed toe, non-canvas, non-skid soled shoes
  • excellent attendance and punctuality

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred or currently enrolled in secondary education completion
  • at least 1 year of restaurant or customer service experience
  • previous experience as a server preferred
  • successfully completed restaurant training course
  • fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English
  • excellent personal presentation and interpersonal skills
  • effective communication skills with guests, co-workers, and supervisors
  • ability to organize and prioritize in high pressure situations
  • knowledge of restaurant menu, ingredients, cooking techniques, property details, and upcoming events
  • basic knowledge of sanitation practices
  • knowledgeable of computer operations and reservation systems
  • ability to absorb large amounts of information quickly including service procedures and dining room layout
  • multitasking ability
  • ability to maintain excellent attendance and punctuality
  • willingness to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays

Job Duties

  • Monitors guests entering and exiting dining area
  • graciously greets guests upon their arrival
  • maintains an accurate, fair and up-to-date waitlist and seating chart
  • informs guests when their table is ready
  • escorts guests to their seats, provides menus to guests, and informs them of the name of their server
  • utilizes Open Table to take reservations, review the daily reservation book, and seat guests without reservations
  • has complete working knowledge of the menus and daily availability
  • familiar with frequent guests and their preferences
  • directs seating rotation within the restaurant to ensure smooth work flow
  • familiar with server stations, daily assignments, timing patterns, and workload capacity
  • balances customer flow among service stations considering guest and server preferences
  • oversees general functioning of dining room during meal service, relays information to service personnel, requests guest satisfaction feedback and makes necessary adjustments
  • responsible for answering dining room telephone, taking reservations and messages
  • handles guest service issues promptly and graciously, reports issues to Restaurant Manager on Duty
  • completes table checks, operates cash register, and reconciles cash till
  • maintains cleanliness of workstation and surrounding areas
  • ensures continuous presence at host stand
  • communicates guest preferences to service team
  • notifies management of possible seating delays
  • assists servers and bus persons with duties as needed
  • wears required uniform and adheres to grooming/dress policies
  • maintains professional conduct visible to guests
  • maintains teamwork and communication with co-workers and supervisors
  • adheres to company and departmental procedures, policies, expectations, and quality standards
