Job Requirements

  • 4-year college degree, preferably in Communications or Broadcast Journalism
  • 1-2 years' experience as an announcer in smaller market or college station environment
  • socially informed and perceptive
  • pleasant, charismatic and well-controlled voice
  • well-rounded communication skills for conducting interviews
  • ability to make others feel comfortable and open up on air
  • excellent writing and editing skills
  • proficient in grammar
  • proficient in media production and broadcast systems
  • proficient in Microsoft Office and social networking

Job Duties

  • Deliver newscasts
  • announce radio playlist of musical selections
  • give weather and traffic conditions
  • deliver sport scores, statistics and upcoming game information
  • comment on music and other matters of interest to audience
  • interview musical personalities and members of listening audience
  • specialize in one type of music
  • write, review and/or edit news copy, introductions, public service announcements, commercials, pre-recorded reports, contests
  • participate in promotional events
  • operate control board for studios and remote programming
  • sell advertising space to advertisers
  • regulate program timing, operate syndicated programming, and play commercials
  • monitor technical quality and accuracy of on-air programming
  • protect station's license by censoring live programs
  • process time-out programming
  • check studio equipment for proper functioning and notify Engineering of malfunctions
  • handle emergency inserts such as news updates and breaking stories
