Job Requirements

  • Minimum of one-year full service restaurant experience or the equivalent
  • Accurate mathematic skills
  • Knowledge of menu and specials
  • Familiarity with restaurant layout including table numbers and station numbers
  • Meet personal schedule requirements punctually
  • Be warm, sincere, outgoing in personality
  • Stand for long periods of time while on duty
  • Move safely throughout all areas of the restaurant
  • Work amidst noise in confined crowded space
  • Move chairs, transport high chairs and/or booster seats to tables when necessary
  • Work nights, weekends and holidays

Job Duties

  • Determine proper amount of reservations to be accepted for each shift according to standing operating procedure
  • Take all reservation calls and record necessary information
  • Confirm applicable reservations according to standing operating procedure
  • Seat the restaurant evenly and in an orderly manner so that the dining room looks well filled at all times and so that all servers have a fair share of the guests
  • Maintain an accurate head count of guests seated in each station
  • Fill out completely all sections of a telephone message pad and pass on to the appropriate person within 10 minutes of the call
  • Check washrooms and coordinate with bus staff cleaning requirements
  • Ensure that host desk and waiting area are kept clean and organized throughout the shift
  • Sell and accurately account for gift certificate sales
  • Move tables as needed for larger or smaller parties
  • Relate to guests pleasantly and with good humor
  • Communicate effectively with guests
  • Accurately quote wait time within 5 minutes
  • Efficiently assign tables appropriate for parties being seated
  • Accurately fill out and maintain host/hostess control sheet
  • Anticipate needs of scheduled special parties
  • Communicate seating needs to service, bus and other host staff
  • Cordially inform the guest about where to wait and how wait system works
