Black Bear Diner is currently seeking motivated and personable individuals for the roles of Hosts and Cashiers at their new location in Murrieta. As a Host or Cashier at Black Bear Diner, your primary responsibility is to create a warm and inviting environment from the moment guests arrive. This role is vital in ensuring guests feel welcomed and valued, which encourages repeat visits and positive word-of-mouth. The position requires excellent communication skills, a customer-first mentality, and the ability to manage a fast-paced dining area efficiently.
Key duties involve greeting and seating guests according to their preferences and the restaurant’s customer flow strategy. When the dining room is at capacity, you will manage waitlists, provide accurate wait times, and notify guests when their tables are ready. In addition, you will assist in maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the dining area, lobby, and restrooms, upholding the diner’s high standards of hygiene.
Handling take-out orders efficiently through the point-of-sale system is also a crucial aspect of the role. Cashiers are responsible for processing payments quickly and accurately while ensuring a positive checkout experience. Both roles contribute significantly to the smooth operation of the restaurant, often crossing over duties when needed to support coworkers and maintain exceptional service levels.

- ability to greet guests warmly and provide excellent customer service
- ability to operate point-of-sale system accurately
- ability to stand for extended periods
- availability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays

Job Duties
- Greet all arriving guests warmly and promptly
- accommodate special seating requests for guests whenever possible
- seat guests based on guest preferences and balancing of customer flow in service stations
- record guest names and number of people in party when immediate seating is limited and provide estimated waiting time
- call out name and number of party when tables become available
- offer guests a menu upon seating and inspect tables for proper presentation and completeness
- relay messages to servers as needed
- maintain clean entrance, lobby, dining room, and restrooms
- assist servers in maintaining and stocking service stations
- transport bus tubs with dirty dishes to dish room if dish machine is needed
- clean and reset tables promptly, including chairs, booths, and surrounding carpet
- take food and beverage orders from guests requesting take out service and enter orders in point-of-sale system
- process payments correctly and efficiently and close checks
- thank guests for their visit and invite them to return
- perform side work at the start and end of each shift as assigned
- be available to fill in as needed to ensure smooth and efficient restaurant operation as directed by manager or supervisor
