Job Requirements

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent
  • Must be a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) registered with the Ohio Department of Health
  • Must have at least two years experience in a similar healthcare role preferred
  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record
  • Must be insurable under professional liability and crime coverage policies
  • Must be able to lift, transfer, push or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Must be willing to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and be on-call as scheduled
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
  • Must be comfortable working with terminally ill patients and potential exposure to infectious diseases

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) in good standing on the Ohio Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry
  • Two years experience as an STNA, home health aide, or similar role preferred
  • Knowledge of home health aide practices and procedures preferred
  • Ability to communicate tactfully with patients and families
  • Understanding of hospice care philosophy
  • Empathy for ill, frail, and impaired individuals

Job Duties

  • Completes personal care as directed by the hospice nurse
  • Provides personal care including bathing, oral hygiene, hair care, skin care, nail care, and dressing
  • Provides psychosocial support to patient and family related to end of life care
  • Assists with patient mobility, transferring, and positioning, including using transfer devices
  • Assists with toileting needs and incontinence care
  • Provides nutritional assistance including meal setup and feeding
  • Observes and reports changes in patient's physical or emotional condition
  • Maintains safe and clean environment
  • Provides homemaking services such as bed making, light housework, and laundering
  • Assists or provides terminal care
  • Drives patients to appointments occasionally
  • Participates in quality improvement and compliance activities
  • Documents care and patient status in medical records
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and caregivers
