Job Requirements

  • Subject to pre-employment background investigation and fingerprinting
  • Must remain felony free per Criminal Justice Information Systems Security Policy
  • Possess and maintain valid driver’s license
  • Obtain and maintain Defensive Driving Certificate from the State of New Mexico within six months of hire
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Flexibility to perform desk work and extensive field flying
  • Willingness to travel statewide and perform overnight stays
  • Meet all applicable federal and state aviation regulations

Job Qualifications

  • Associate's degree with a technical or aviation-related discipline
  • FAA Commercial Pilot's License with helicopter and instrument ratings
  • FAA Class II Medical Certificate
  • 1,500 hours of helicopter PIC flight time
  • Experience in aviation or related field totaling two years may substitute for education
  • Ability to maintain currency and proficiency in flight operations
  • Knowledge of federal and state aviation regulations

Job Duties

  • Operate helicopters in support of law enforcement operations including surveillance, patrol, search and rescue
  • Plan and conduct missions across the state including high-risk warrants and call-out operations
  • Assist Tactical Team with team member transport and mission support
  • Train and maintain currency with other pilots and Tactical Flight Officers
  • Transport Department of Public Safety personnel and VIPs as requested
  • Perform aircraft inspections to ensure mission readiness
  • Maintain written and computerized flight logs and pilot records to comply with FAA regulations and federal guidelines
