Job Description

This Helicopter Pilot (Accelerated Hire) position is a specialized role within the Aviation Classification Repair Activity Depot (AVCRAD) or any designated Army Aviation Facility. These facilities serve critical functions in maintaining and supporting military aviation assets. AVCRADs are pivotal in the overall mission readiness and operational capacity of the Army's aviation units, ensuring that aircraft are classified, repaired, and returned to service efficiently. Job Requirements

  • minimum one year on-the-job experience in grade immediately below the next higher level
  • working experience in civilian or military aviation programs
  • must provide flight records
  • must have federal aviation administration certification or accredited military aviation certification
  • submission of transcripts and certificates if using education as qualification
  • education from accredited institutions only
  • foreign education must be evaluated and deemed equivalent by recognized organization
  • compliance with safety regulations and operational directives

Job Qualifications

  • Federal Aviation Administration certification or equivalent military aviation certification
  • minimum one year on-the-job experience at GS-2181-11 level or comparable military rank
  • two years specialized experience in military aircraft operations
  • experience with mission planning and preparation
  • proficiency in flight plan filing and crew briefings
  • ability to perform aircraft inspections and loading assessments
  • experience in supervising in-flight operational tasks
  • experience training crew members
  • knowledge of DoD and OSHA safety regulations
  • demonstrated competency in flight systems, mission execution, operation and control, tests and measurement

Job Duties

  • Operate specific main-frame military aircraft
  • plan and prepare mission tasks
  • review and analyze mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information
  • file flight plans and conduct crew briefings
  • conduct aircraft preflight inspections and equipment assessments
  • supervise navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, and reconnaissance operations
  • train crew members in mission-specific tasks
  • develop plans and policies, monitor operations, advise commanders
  • apply knowledge of flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, mission tactics, and operating procedures
  • implement unit safety programs in accordance with DoD, Army, National Guard Bureau, and OSHA policies
