Job Requirements

  • maintain weight not exceeding 250 pounds
  • be under 70 years old
  • 2000 total flight hours minimum for VFR with at least 1500 hours in category
  • 1000 hours as pilot in command in category
  • 500 hours rotor wing turbine time
  • 200 hours cross-country flight time with 50 at night
  • 100 hours unaided night as PIC
  • 50 hours total actual or hood instrument time in flight and in category
  • 2500 total flight hours minimum for IFR with 2000 hours in category
  • 1000 hours PIC in category for IFR
  • 500 hours cross-country flight time
  • 100 hours night flight time
  • 75 hours actual or simulated instrument time with 50 in flight including 20 in actual instrument conditions
  • compliance with DOT/FAA drug and alcohol testing
  • willingness to travel up to 10%
  • regular scheduled attendance

Job Qualifications

  • associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
  • two to five years of related experience and/or training
  • bachelor's degree preferred
  • commercial pilot license with instrument rating for category and class of aircraft
  • ATP rating in category meets this requirement
  • current first or second class FAA medical certificate
  • proven experience flying commercial or military aircraft within past 24 months
  • demonstrated ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues and EMS representatives
  • extensive turbine helicopter flight experience
  • knowledge of federal aviation regulations and operational safety standards

Job Duties

  • Operate Air Methods aircraft in a safe and legal manner
  • complete pre-flight inspections including walk arounds before and after each flight
  • ensure final authority over aircraft operations and safety of passengers, cargo and equipment
  • maintain thorough knowledge of all aircraft and medical systems including backup aircraft at operational area
  • ensure medical flight team familiarity with air medical interior and systems
  • complete all required documentation accurately and timely
  • conduct detailed flight planning with little notice to exacting standards
  • participate in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees and community outreach
  • perform other duties as assigned
