Job Requirements
- Associate degree in automotive or diesel technology or related mechanical engineering field
- two years progressively responsible related experience or journey level mechanic experience
- ability to diagnose and repair various vehicle systems including engines and electrical
- proficiency in welding and fabrication
- ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 100 lbs
- valid driver’s license with fewer than 12 points in past 36 months
- ability to work in the United States
- availability to work extended hours under arduous conditions
- certification or willingness to obtain forklift, heavy equipment operation, commercial driver’s license, fire service pump repair, hazardous materials handling, and electronic repair credentials
- ability to follow safety and emergency response guidelines
- ability to operate vehicles under all weather conditions
Job Qualifications
- Associate degree in automotive or diesel technology or related mechanical engineering field
- two years of progressive job-related mechanical experience or journey level mechanic experience
- extensive knowledge of mechanical trade practices, tools, and equipment
- ability to diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel engines, electrical, fuel, braking, drive train, suspension, and steering systems
- knowledge of small equipment such as fire pumps, generators, and chainsaws
- proficiency in welding techniques including mig, tig, arc, and acetylene welding
- skill in using shop equipment like drill presses, lathes, and power saws
- ability to make minor body repairs and paint vehicles
- strong communication skills in English
- ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues
Job Duties
- Perform journeyman level mechanical repairs and maintenance on vehicles and specialized equipment
- perform preventative maintenance and establish service schedules
- inspect, test, and troubleshoot defective vehicles and machinery using diagnostic tools
- dismantle and reassemble vehicles and equipment
- weld and fabricate parts using lathes, grinders, welders, and cutters
- rebuild gas and diesel engines
- recondition and replace engine and mechanical parts
- repair, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systems
- repair body damage and perform painting tasks on vehicles and equipment
- research, order, and maintain parts inventory
- maintain detailed maintenance and service records
- travel statewide for field maintenance and emergency repairs
- perform painting tasks adhering to proper mixing, application, and safety procedures
- manage materials efficiently during painting and welding tasks
- adhere to hazardous materials handling and emergency response guidelines
