Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited Unit Coordinator/Clerk program or equivalent experience
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Strong organizational and clerical skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively
  • Willingness to work full-time evening shifts (3 PM - 11 PM)

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited Unit Coordinator/Clerk program or one-year related job experience or college coursework
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Proficient in typing, spelling, and medical terminology
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to interact compassionately with patients, families, and staff
  • Knowledge of hospital information systems and clerical procedures
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks efficiently
  • Competence in handling confidential information
  • Experience in maintaining medical records
  • Ability to participate in quality improvement initiatives
  • Teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Commitment to patient advocacy and ethical standards

Job Duties

  • Performs receptionist and secretary activities for assigned area embodying the principles of service
  • Greets patients, guests, and staff in a courteous manner
  • Interacts with and provides services for patients and their families appropriate to the specialty and age of the patient
  • Utilizes professional telephone etiquette at all times
  • Accurately routes calls and messages to the appropriate individuals or departments
  • Uses basic computer skills and printing equipment to retrieve and process clinical information from hospital information system
  • Processes electronic mail and messages promptly
  • Maintains bulletin boards, unit manuals, and files
  • Sorts and distributes incoming unit mail
  • Maintains accurate logs and records
  • Organizes and prioritizes work
  • Enters and retrieves information through Hospital Automated System
  • Practices positive guest and peer relations
  • Maintains unit medical records as outlined by policies
  • Notifies individuals of orders, admissions, transfers, and discharges within required time
  • Assures medical records are properly assembled and maintained
  • Monitors, orders, and arranges repairs for equipment and supplies
  • Tracks and inventories unit equipment and supplies
  • Assists with phone communications for patients with disabilities
  • Assists in patient room preparation, meal service, and transport
  • Maintains clean and orderly nursing station
  • Serves as patient/family advocate respecting rights and confidentiality
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement activities
  • Demonstrates acceptable productivity and cost containment
  • Functions as an interdependent and supportive team member
  • Accepts responsibility for own growth and development
  • Performs related duties as required
