Job Requirements
- high school diploma required
- associate's degree or higher in early childhood education or related field preferred
- previous Head Start experience preferred
- two years relevant work experience with preschoolers aged 3-5 years
- CPR and first aid certification preferred
- maintain a valid driver's license with good driving record and insurance
- ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
- ability to work in a non-smoking environment

Job Duties
- Perform according to the standards set forth by Head Start, NAEYC, CACFP, USDA, Tennessee Child Care Licensing and Porter-Leath while performing duties within the food service and classroom
- provide classroom coverage for teachers and assistant teachers when they are absent or out of the classroom
- assume responsibilities as the primary caregiver for one group of children including children with special needs when assigned
- act as role model to clients and staff and mentor families of children in group
- keep supervisor and manager informed of programmatic issues
- work cooperatively with other staff to create a positive, enriching and safe environment
- assist program staff in delivering appropriate health, nutrition, disability, education, and family support services
- assist in implementing daily education procedures in the classroom
- ensure communication with nutrition, health/disability, and education staff to fulfill special diet needs
- assist in preparation and serving of meals according to menu and health requirements
- comply with Shelby County Health Department and Porter-Leath food safety standards
- maintain records of attendance and meal counts
- conduct parent/teacher conferences and home visits when necessary
- assist with and conduct ongoing child evaluations, screenings and assessments
- assist with student files and other classroom duties
- attend all professional development opportunities and implement learned strategies
- contribute to team effort by performing other duties as assigned
