The City of Des Moines, located in Iowa, is seeking dedicated and responsible individuals to join their Parks and Recreation Department as Temporary Full-Time Swimming Pool Supervisors for the 2026 summer season. Job Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Valid driver’s license or equivalent mobility required
- Submit driving records if holding out-of-state driver’s license
- Possess or obtain American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and CPR certifications valid through September 2, 2026
- Undergo satisfactory criminal, sex offender and driving record background checks
- U.S. citizen or legal alien eligible for hire
- Ability to work approximately 40 hours per week with shifts between 8:00 AM and 11:00 PM including weekends and holidays from May to September
- Willingness to work consistently throughout the season
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior lifeguard or swimming instructor experience preferred
- Possess current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and CPR Certification or ability to obtain before employment
- Valid driver's license or equivalent mobility
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work reliably throughout the pool season
- Successful completion of criminal, sex offender and driving record background checks
Job Duties
- Perform all duties of the lifeguard position
- Maintain constant watch for accidents or potential accidents at a swimming pool
- Enforce rules governing the conduct of persons at a swimming pool, warning patrons against hazardous practices
- Possess and utilize superior customer service skills
- Assist persons in distress by application of safety techniques, resuscitation and First Aid administration
- Assist with maintenance work on or around the swimming pool
- Assume responsibility of assigning daily tasks to the guard staff
- Assume managerial tasks in the absence of the manager
- Perform related work as required
