Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education preferred
  • high school head coaching experience desired
  • college course work in sport coaching and prevention of athletic injuries
  • teaching assignment in building preferred
  • strong hand-eye and mind-eye coordination
  • physical dexterity required
  • availability to travel with team to all events
  • ability to manage multiple administrative and coaching responsibilities
  • successful completion of post-offer criminal background check required

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education preferred
  • high school head coaching experience desired
  • college course work in sport coaching and prevention of athletic injuries

  • strong leadership and communication skills
  • ability to work collaboratively with athletic staff and school administration

  • knowledge of current gymnastics coaching techniques and safety standards
  • ability to manage team logistics and fundraising activities

Job Duties

  • Assumes responsibility for entire program 7-12
  • supervises assistant coach
  • assists in selection and evaluation of assistant coach
  • works with Athletic Director in planning schedules
  • is in charge of some fundraising for the team
  • does bus schedules for meets
  • holds parent meeting before 1st meet discussing insurance and eligibility rules
  • visits middle school before season to sign up interested gymnasts for team
  • keeps physical list and student and parent consent forms updated and current
  • gets meet scores and information to news media
  • is in charge of uniforms handing out, collection, ordering
  • travels with team to all events
  • cares for all equipment and maintains inventory
  • cares for athletes and injured athletes including daily taping
  • keeps accurate and up to date information on individual and team scores
  • prepares award lists and holds annual banquet for athletes and parents
  • attends all required coaching meetings, state local and rules meetings
  • operates within the policies of the SDHSAA
  • keeps informed and attend yearly state clinics for gymnastics
  • maintains active membership in related professional organization
  • prepares list when teams are taken out at school to participate in athletic contest
  • works with and maintains a staff relationship with other coaches
  • works within the Principal and Athletic Director to perform duties for the overall good of all athletic programs
