Job Requirements
- Current State of Connecticut employee with at least six months of full-time service
- Ability to work full-time 10-month schedule Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm
- Physical strength, stamina, agility and good visual and auditory acuity
- Free from communicable diseases
- Ability to meet USDA National School Lunch and Breakfast Program requirements
- Willingness to undergo a physical examination if required
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy weights
- Ability to comply with state and institutional kitchen safety and sanitation standards
Job Qualifications
- Three years of experience in the preparation and cooking of food
- One year of experience in the preparation of food on a quantity basis
- Experience in preparation and serving of complete daily meals in a large scale institutional or commercial setting
- Experience using institutional food service cooking equipment
- Experience following basic food safety and sanitation guidelines and procedures
- Experience using basic computer software systems including email
- ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hiring
Job Duties
- Plan kitchen workflow and determine priorities
- Schedule, assign, oversee, and review work
- Establish and maintain kitchen procedures
- Provide staff training and assistance
- Conduct or assist in conducting performance evaluations
- Act as liaison with operating units, agencies, and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures
- Inspect and requisition food and supplies
- Supervise the cleaning of kitchen and other food service areas and of equipment
