Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous cooking experience preferably in childcare, school, or healthcare settings
  • current ServSafe certification or ability to obtain before hire
  • knowledge of nutrition for young children
  • ability to plan and prepare meals in large quantities
  • strong organizational skills
  • ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • pass a background check
  • meet Massachusetts EEC health and safety standards

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • culinary training or food service certification preferred
  • previous experience as a cook in childcare, school, or healthcare setting strongly preferred
  • current ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain before hire
  • knowledge of nutrition guidelines for young children
  • ability to plan menus and prepare meals in large batches
  • strong organizational and time-management skills
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • must pass a background check and meet Massachusetts EEC health and safety requirements

Job Duties

  • Plan, prepare, and serve breakfast and lunch daily according to the daycare’s schedule
  • develop menus that are balanced, nutritious, and aligned with USDA and Massachusetts EEC guidelines
  • maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment that meets health and safety regulations
  • monitor food inventory
  • order and stock supplies as needed while staying within budget
  • safely store food, label items, and track expiration dates
  • accommodate dietary restrictions, allergies, and cultural food preferences as required by families
  • keep detailed records of menus, meal counts, and food safety logs
  • follow all sanitation procedures, including proper handwashing, dishwashing, and surface cleaning
  • collaborate with daycare staff to ensure mealtimes run smoothly and positively
  • model healthy eating habits and maintain a professional, caring attitude toward children and families
