Job Requirements

  • Basic understanding of professional cooking and knife handling skills
  • understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures
  • previous prep or line cook experience
  • ability to speak and hear
  • close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
  • constant standing with some walking
  • be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)
  • be able to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 50 pounds
  • continual use of manual dexterity and gross motor skills with frequent use of bi-manual dexterity and fine motor skills

Job Qualifications

  • Proven experience as pastry chef, baker or relevant role
  • certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking or relevant field
  • in depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation and baking techniques and nutrition
  • working knowledge of baking with ingredient limitations (pastries that are gluten free, sugarless etc.)
  • ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
  • must have problem-solving abilities, be self-motivated, and organized
  • great attention to detail and creativity
  • organizing and leadership skills
  • professional communication skills are required
  • willingness to replenish professional knowledge

Job Duties

  • Prepare a wide variety of cakes
  • create new and exciting desserts to renew our menus and engage the interest of customers
  • decorate pastries using different icings, toppings etc. to ensure the presentation will be beautiful and exciting
  • monitor stocks for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar etc. and make appropriate orders within budget
  • check quality of material and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking
  • guide and motivate pastry assistants and bakers to work more efficiently
  • identify staffing needs and help recruit and train personnel
  • maintain a clean and orderly cooking station and adhere to health and safety standards
