Job Requirements
- Basic understanding of professional cooking and knife handling skills
- understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures
- previous prep or line cook experience
- ability to speak and hear
- close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- constant standing with some walking
- be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)
- be able to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 50 pounds
- continual use of manual dexterity and gross motor skills with frequent use of bi-manual dexterity and fine motor skills
Job Qualifications
- Proven experience as pastry chef, baker or relevant role
- certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking or relevant field
- in depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation and baking techniques and nutrition
- working knowledge of baking with ingredient limitations (pastries that are gluten free, sugarless etc.)
- ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure
- must have problem-solving abilities, be self-motivated, and organized
- great attention to detail and creativity
- organizing and leadership skills
- professional communication skills are required
- willingness to replenish professional knowledge
Job Duties
- Prepare a wide variety of cakes
- create new and exciting desserts to renew our menus and engage the interest of customers
- decorate pastries using different icings, toppings etc. to ensure the presentation will be beautiful and exciting
- monitor stocks for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar etc. and make appropriate orders within budget
- check quality of material and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking
- guide and motivate pastry assistants and bakers to work more efficiently
- identify staffing needs and help recruit and train personnel
- maintain a clean and orderly cooking station and adhere to health and safety standards
