Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or GED
  • 1 - 2 years related experience such as front office or administrative experience in medical office
  • minimum of six months relevant experience preferably in medical setting with insurance billing

Job Duties

  • Document patient cancelation and patient no shows as appropriate
  • complete front end process of billing procedure ensuring all information is entered into the computer registration module
  • obtain necessary patient information (clinical, financial and demographic) from referral source to initiate admissions process
  • interview patient or patient representative or referral source to obtain necessary personal and financial data to determine eligibility for admission
  • obtain necessary signatures to ensure efficient processing of admissions data in accordance with policies and procedures
  • coordinate with referral source or patient or patient's physician to resolve issues impacting patient admission process
  • maintain patient confidentiality at all times
  • provide patient with appropriate HIPAA information and documentation
  • verify and obtain eligibility and benefits for all primary and secondary insurances
  • perform pre-certification on all non-Medicare patients before treatment initiation
  • work closely with billing personnel to obtain and verify all necessary billing information
  • research questions related to charge sheets and file charge sheets in financial records
  • distribute copies of billing information and necessary documents to billing department daily
  • send patient operative reports to referral source and patient's physician within 72 hours of procedure completion
  • ensure appropriate signatures are included on all necessary chart forms
  • inspect patient charts post-procedure and obtain physician dictation for medical record filing
  • prepare and type routine correspondence, form letters and reports
  • answer telephones and route calls
  • greet visitors and patients with a positive, polite, courteous and professional attitude
  • distribute faxes, memos and emails to appropriate parties
  • make copies of correspondence and other printed matter
  • print patient schedule and pull patient charts daily
  • maintain, purge and file medical records in an organized manner
  • obtain medical records as requested
  • maintain effective communication with peers and other healthcare providers and facilities
  • pick up and sort mail/faxes daily and arrange package pickup and delivery
  • participate in staff meetings and communicate issues related to quality of care
  • inventory, order or stock office with supplies, equipment, forms and medications as directed
  • update and maintain log books and tracking systems in accordance with policies
  • maintain waiting room cleanliness and order
  • escalate issues to supervisor as necessary
  • perform semi-routine functions requiring full job knowledge
  • comply with company policies, procedures, and applicable laws
  • assist with assigned projects
  • perform other duties as assigned
