Job Requirements

  • Maintain weight not to exceed 250 pounds
  • Age less than 70 years
  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with two to five years related experience or training
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Ability to perform detailed flight planning and operate under pressure
  • Ability to comply with all Federal Aviation Regulations and company policies
  • Willingness to travel extensively, covering multiple states
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Valid commercial pilot certificates and medical certifications
  • Meet all safety and operation standards established by Air Methods

Job Qualifications

  • Commercial pilot certificate with instrument rating for category and class of aircraft
  • ATP rating in category is acceptable
  • Valid First or Second Class FAA Medical certificate
  • Minimum 2000 total flight hours with at least 1500 hours in the applicable category
  • Minimum 1000 hours pilot-in-command (PIC) in category
  • At least 500 hours of rotor wing turbine time
  • At least 200 hours cross-country flight time including 50 hours at night
  • Minimum 100 hours unaided night PIC time or 100 hours of NVG time substituting up to 50 hours unaided
  • At least 50 hours actual or hood instrument time in flight and in category (simulator time excluded)
  • Recent flight experience within previous 24 months in category for commercial operators or military
  • Positive interpersonal skills with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and public

Job Duties

  • Ensure aircraft and weather conditions are airworthy to transport medical crew and patient
  • Comply with Federal Aviation Regulations, Aeronautical Information Manual, and General Operations Manual guidelines
  • Operate Air Methods' aircraft safely and legally
  • Complete pre-flight inspections and aircraft walk-arounds before and after flights
  • Maintain final authority over aircraft operations and safety of passengers, cargo, and equipment
  • Ensure familiarity with aircraft and medical systems across backup aircraft and support medical crew comfort
  • Conduct detailed and timely flight planning
  • Participate in Air Methods meetings, activities, projects, committees, and community outreach
  • Manage required documentation accurately
  • Travel extensively with base coverage across the South Central region
