Job Requirements

  • High school education
  • 1-2 years of work experience preferably in food service or customer service
  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to handle money and operate cash registers
  • Must be pleasant, friendly and flexible
  • Must have good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to adhere to policies and procedures
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure
  • Ability to inventory and record temperatures
  • Ability to work onsite with rotating shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and push/pull food carts
  • Must comply with hospital hygiene and safety policies

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write and speak English
  • High school education
  • 1-2 years of work experience preferably in food service or customer service
  • Basic supervisory course recommended
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diet orders
  • Knowledge of federal, Massachusetts and Boston City health codes and Joint Commission regulations
  • Computer skills and basic math including cash handling
  • Pleasant, friendly, flexible and hardworking
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, staff, patients and public in a sensitive manner
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to adhere to policies and procedures
  • Prior nutrition experience is a plus
  • Bilingual ability preferred
  • Ability to multitask and handle pressure related to timely delivery
  • Ability to inventory food and supplies and adjust menus
  • Ability to take and record food and equipment temperatures accurately

Job Duties

  • Prepare aesthetically pleasing and 100 percent accurate trays within 45 minutes of patient ordering meal
  • Participate in restaurant-style cold and hot food production in accordance with departmental standards
  • Deliver complete and accurate trays and food requests within 45 minutes and collect trays within 1 hour of delivery, verifying patient menu selections
  • Act upon patient meal service requests or alert call center or supervisor
  • Contact supervisor or diet technician to substitute items as needed
  • Deliver nourishments to patient bedside and floor nourishment areas and inventory/order nursing station refrigerator supplies
  • Record nursing station refrigerator temperatures for compliance
  • Bill and collect payment for guest and staff orders without accepting gratuities
  • Adhere to hospital and departmental hand hygiene policies and procedures
  • Inventory and restock food and equipment before and during meal services
  • Operate meal service equipment such as coffeemaker, toaster, microwave, mixer, and blender
  • Clean and sanitize equipment and perform assigned cleaning duties
  • Assist in orientation and on-the-job training of new room service team members and dietetic interns
  • Monitor and record operation-specific data for administrative purposes
  • Perform duties of other team members as required
  • Adhere to foodservice and safety regulations including HACCP program
  • Perform all other assigned duties
