Job Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of food service or customer service experience preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and general public
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks under time pressure
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs
  • Able to stand for most of the day
  • Basic computer and math skills
  • Bilingual preferred

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • High school education or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of work experience preferably in food service or customer service
  • Basic supervisory course recommended
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diet orders
  • Knowledge of federal, Massachusetts, Boston City Health Codes and Joint Commission regulations
  • Computer skills and basic math proficiency including working with money and cash registers
  • Pleasant, friendly, and flexible demeanor
  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Effective communicator capable of discussing semi-complex information sensitively
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient and employee information
  • Ability to adhere to and enforce policies and procedures
  • Prior nutrition field experience is a plus
  • Bilingual skills are preferred
  • Ability to multi-task and manage time-sensitive delivery requirements
  • Ability to inventory food, supplies and menus and adjust appropriately
  • Ability to accurately take and record temperatures of food and equipment

Job Duties

  • Prepare aesthetically pleasing and 100% accurate trays within 45 minutes of patient ordering meal
  • Participate in restaurant-style cold/hot production of high-quality food products
  • Deliver complete and accurate trays and food requests no later than 45 minutes after order placement and collect trays within one hour of delivery
  • Verify patient menu selections with food served, correcting mistakes immediately
  • Act on patient meal service requests
  • Contact supervisor or diet tech for item substitutions
  • Deliver nourishments to patient bedside and floor nourishment areas
  • Inventory and order nursing station refrigerator supplies
  • Record nursing station refrigerator temperatures
  • Bill and collect payment for guest or staff orders without accepting gratuities
  • Adhere to hospital hand hygiene policies
  • Inventory and restock food and equipment prior to and during meal service
  • Operate meal service equipment including coffeemaker, toaster, microwave, mixer, and blender
  • Clean and sanitize equipment and perform cleaning duties
  • Assist with dish room tasks
  • Assist in orientation and training of new Room Service Team members and Dietetic Interns
  • Monitor and record operation-specific data for administrative purposes
  • Perform duties of other Room Service Team members as needed and appropriate
  • Adhere to departmental and hospital policies and HACCP food safety program
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
