Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent work experience required
  • ability to work well under time constraints
  • strong oral and written communication skills

  • basic knowledge of tray identification system
  • basic nutrition knowledge related to patient menu programs
  • capability to follow detailed written or oral instructions
  • willingness to comply with COVID-19 vaccination policy
  • capability to maintain positive, cordial communication with patients and staff

Job Duties

  • Delivers and retrieves patient trays
  • assists patients with tray set-up as needed
  • delivers nourishment and between-meal snacks to patients as ordered
  • utilizes AIDET guidelines when interacting with patients
  • stocks unit pantries as ordered and ensures sign-off by nursing personnel
  • consults with team leader or supervisor regarding problems or conflicts
  • reports meal service related problems to management
  • assists with tray and tray line set-up and simple food preparation as directed
  • communicates positively and cordially with patients, visitors, and staff
  • assists with expedition of trays from tray line
  • places hot beverages on trays and positions trays in holding carts
  • retrieves dirty trays promptly
  • covers other units as directed during breaks or as needed
  • provides patients with hand sanitizer wipes prior to meals and encourages their use
  • pours coffee and hot beverages ensuring freshness
  • assists in maintaining a courtesy score of 90 percent or above for Press Ganey
  • demonstrates fire safety knowledge including Ansul system and extinguisher storage
  • demonstrates safe chemical usage and PPE adherence
  • follows HACCP program including temperature control and sanitation
  • assists with organization of coolers and storerooms
  • scans patient trays in the kitchen and at delivery
  • cleans work areas and delivery carts daily
  • completes other duties as assigned by Food and Nutrition Management team
