The City of Hampton, Virginia, is seeking an experienced and driven Group Sales Manager to join its Convention and Visitors Bureau. Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in event management, hospitality, marketing, communications, business or a related field of study preferred
  • Three years of full-time equivalent experience in demonstrated hotel and/or destination sales performance preferably with a hotel, attraction, event marketing or destination marketing organization
  • Experience in hospitality industry and/or meetings event field preferred
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Thorough knowledge of conference event management required
  • Must possess or obtain the Certified Meetings Professional (CMP) certification when practical experience and vocational training requirements are met
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driver’s record based on City of Hampton criteria
  • Must successfully pass a background check prior to employment or promotion
  • May be considered essential personnel during city emergency situations which may require long hours and unusual schedules

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in event management, marketing, communications, business, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of three years of full-time equivalent experience in hotel and/or destination sales performance
  • Experience in hotel, attraction, event marketing, or destination marketing organization preferred
  • Knowledge of conference event management
  • Ability to obtain Certified Meetings Professional (CMP) certification when eligible
  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to pass criminal background check

Job Duties

  • Develop and execute strategic sales plans for convention and meeting business
  • Build and maintain relationships with hotels, event planners, and tourism partners
  • Achieve and surpass sales goals to generate revenue for the city
  • Represent the City of Hampton at industry events and trade shows
  • Collaborate with internal teams to coordinate and support successful event execution
  • Monitor market trends and competitors to identify new business opportunities
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of conference and event management practices
