Job Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled as a student
- Possess and maintain current CPR, First Aid and AED certifications
- Possess and maintain a national fitness certification or specialty fitness certification
- Ability to lead group exercise classes confidently
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to arrive early and stay after classes for setup and takedown
- Commitment to adhering to department policies and procedures
- Upload resume and copies of fitness certifications with application
Job Qualifications
- Possess and maintain current CPR, First Aid and AED certifications
- Possess and maintain a national fitness certification (ACE, ACSM or AFAA) and/or a specialty certification (Les Mills, Zumba, Yoga, WERQ Dance Fitness, etc)
- Demonstrated leadership and professionalism in past roles
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
Job Duties
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive rapport with patrons and coworkers
- Demonstrate knowledge of exercise principles, kinesiology, and biomechanics
- Educate participants on proper and safe exercise form, including exercise modification
- Motivate, lead, and guide participants to an effective workout with enthusiasm
- Monitor participants and their ability to ensure proper use of equipment and technique, including checking participant passes and recording class attendance for each class
- Act as First Responder to accidents and incidents
- Arrive to class 15 minutes early with music cued, class planned, and equipment set up
- Stay for 15 minutes after class to put away equipment, lock room, and be available to answer participant questions
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication, professional mannerisms, friendly demeanor, and ability to interact with diverse populations
- Work independently and in a team
- Adhere to all policies and procedures as outlined in Recreation and Wellness Student Employee Manual
- Promote and support the mission of the Department of Recreation and Wellness
- Attend group exercise instructor meetings
- Participate in campus Recreation and Wellness special events
- Assist with equipment cleaning and inspection
- Mentor new instructors and complete peer evaluations
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
- May be required to be hired as a Fitness Attendant for decreased pay
