Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- one year of experience in gardening, nursery work, or grounds maintenance
- experience operating light-duty grounds equipment
- valid driver's license
- ability to pass pre-placement medical assessment
- submission of resume, high school diploma or GED, and DMV driving record report with application
- ability to undergo fingerprinting and background check as per California State Law
Job Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of grounds and landscape maintenance procedures
- understanding of plant nutrient and fertilizer application
- knowledge of sprinkler irrigation system operation and maintenance
- basic arithmetic skills to calculate weights, proportions, and sums
- communication skills to interact effectively with coworkers, staff, and students
- ability to operate and maintain grounds maintenance tools and equipment
- ability to apply nutrients and fertilizers safely
- ability to identify common plant, insect, and nutrient deficiencies
- ability to work cooperatively within a team

Job Duties
- Mow, edge, aerate, and reseed lawns
- trim shrubs, hedges, and trees
- hoe weeds and rake lawns
- operate and clean power riding lawn mowers, power blowers, and other motorized equipment
- assist with planting and cultivating trees, grass, flowers, and shrubs
- remove weeds, blower, rake, and remove trash and debris from walkways, culverts, stairways, roadways, planters, and parking
- maintain in-ground drains and culverts
- assist other landscape and grounds specialists in excavating and contouring district grounds
- construct, maintain, and repair play structures
- clean and assist with repairs of fields and play areas following events
- perform general grounds cleanup including picking up paper and trash
- maintain and clean structures such as storage sheds, restrooms, and seating areas
- assist in construction, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems
- dig trenches, unload and relocate materials, and clean tools and equipment
- assist structural maintenance specialists periodically
- perform other duties as assigned
