Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • completion of four years of progressively responsible experience in gardening and groundskeeping
  • minimum two years supervisory experience
  • knowledge of plant diseases, pests, herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers
  • ability to operate and maintain groundskeeping equipment
  • ability to plan, organize, and supervise work
  • physical ability to perform manual labor
  • excellent interpersonal skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or high school equivalent
  • four years of progressively responsible experience as a gardener and groundskeeper
  • two years in a supervisory capacity or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • thorough knowledge of gardening and groundskeeping practices, plant diseases, pests, herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers
  • skill in operation and maintenance of groundskeeping equipment
  • ability to plan and organize work effectively
  • strong supervisory and interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • Assists in planning annual schedules and prepares cost estimates for gardening and groundskeeping operation
  • directs and supervises the work of several groundskeepers
  • supervises and assists in watering and mowing lawns, pruning trees and shrubs
  • inspects plants for diseases and recommends spaying procedures
  • directs snow removal
  • supervises training of employees
  • orders supplies and equipment
  • may supervise set-up of special events
  • responsible for continuing assessment of maintenance program for district grounds and exterior facilities
  • performs related work as required by administrators
