Job Requirements

  • high school graduate or high school equivalent
  • completion of four years of progressively responsible experience as a gardener and groundskeeper, including two years in a supervisory capacity or any equivalent combination of education and experience

Job Qualifications

  • high school graduate or high school equivalent
  • thorough knowledge of the practices, principles, methods and equipment used in gardening and groundskeeping
  • considerable knowledge of plant diseases and pests
  • herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers
  • supervisory practices and techniques
  • skill in the operation and maintenance of equipment used in groundskeeping
  • ability to plan and organize work
  • ability to effectively supervise many employees
  • ability to perform physical labor
  • ability to perform a variety of gardening and groundskeeping tasks
  • ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • completion of four years of progressively responsible experience as a gardener and groundskeeper, including two years in a supervisory capacity or any equivalent combination of education and experience

Job Duties

  • assists in planning annual schedules and prepares cost estimates for gardening and groundskeeping operation
  • directs and supervises the work of several groundskeepers
  • supervises and assists in watering and mowing lawns
  • pruning trees and shrubs
  • inspects plants for diseases and recommends spaying procedures
  • directs snow removal
  • supervises training of employees
  • order supplies and equipment
  • may supervise set-up of special events
  • responsible for continuing assessment of maintenance program for district grounds and exterior facilities
  • performs related work as required by administrator(s)
