Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • six months of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • valid South Carolina Driver's License
  • ability to work and walk outdoors in downtown Charleston
  • availability to work one of the assigned shifts (Shift A: Mon. - Fri. 7:30 am - 3:30 pm
  • Shift B: Tues. - Sat. 3:30 pm - 11:30 pm)
  • may require working evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • ability to work 24-hour shifts or emergency schedules during major storms or emergencies

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • six months of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • valid South Carolina Driver's License

Job Duties

  • Sweeps and cleans streets, sidewalks, and gutters using a Glutton street vac or a shovel and push broom
  • required to operate a Glutton street vac
  • removes debris and dirt from sewer grates and catch basins
  • shovels snow and sand when necessary
  • cleans litter from vacant lots around the city
  • may drive a truck and pull a trailer to deliver glutton street vacs to job sites
  • may drive a City vehicle to empty City-owned wastebaskets on sidewalks
  • performs other duties as assigned
