Job Requirements

  • Two years of experience in building trades, custodial work, groundskeeping, irrigation systems, street operations, construction, or solid waste operations
  • Texas class C driver's license or Texas class B commercial driver's license or equivalent from another state (where required)
  • Pesticide noncommercial applicator license issued by Texas Department of Agriculture within one year of appointment (where required)
  • Backflow prevention tester certification (where required)
  • Subject to drug and alcohol testing as per federal regulations
  • Ability to supervise and perform semi-skilled or unskilled maintenance work
  • Must be a City of El Paso employee at the time of application

Job Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in building trades, custodial work, groundskeeping, irrigation systems, street operations, construction, or solid waste operations
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and workplace safety practices
  • Ability to supervise and train small work crews
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills for scheduling and work order management
  • Experience in maintenance and repair of grounds and facilities
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work effectively

Job Duties

  • Plan, organize, direct, and engage in daily maintenance of city grounds, parks, streetscapes, irrigation and stormwater systems, traffic signals, signs, and markings
  • Schedule and allocate repair and maintenance tasks to staff
  • Perform regular site inspections ensuring quality, safety, and timeliness
  • Maintain files and records related to projects, schedules, and work orders using computer systems
  • Verify work completed by crews and accuracy of data for billing
  • Oversee maintenance and repair of equipment
  • Supervise small crew activities including assigning tasks, monitoring work, guiding performance, training employees, and preparing performance appraisals
  • Interact with public officials, contractors, other departments, and the public providing accurate information and resolving complaints
  • Perform waste screening and manage landfill operations including directing traffic and sorting waste
  • Assist or perform maintenance work as needed to ensure continuity
  • Recommend employee leave approvals and other personnel actions
  • Support and promote city safety programs
  • Oversee contractor work as necessary
