Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited institution
  • 5-7 years senior management experience in convention center
  • ability to perform essential duties with energy and enthusiasm
  • strong leadership and communication skills
  • experience in budgeting and financial oversight
  • ability to build relationships with event organizers and community partners
  • capability to coordinate multiple departments and operations
  • willingness to work onsite at Tucson Convention Center

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or public administration or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • minimum of 5-7 years of senior management experience within a Convention Center
  • established relationships with organizers of conventions, trade shows, meeting planners, hotel general managers, Convention and Visitors Bureaus, and community interest groups
  • demonstrated entrepreneurial focus and customer commitment
  • experience working with hospitality and tourism sectors to market convention centers
  • ability to evaluate service delivery and recommend organizational changes
  • effective written and verbal communication skills
  • experience managing budgets for convention and exposition facilities
  • superior interpersonal skills
  • solid personnel management and labor relations skills
  • familiarity with goal setting and strategic planning processes
  • understanding of municipal agencies and government procedures
  • experience with capital plans and complex budgets

Job Duties

  • Aggressively promotes the use of the facility to maximize its utilization
  • negotiates and provides final approval on all lease agreements with vendors
  • establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all pertinent parties
  • coordinates facility involvement with Convention and Visitors Bureau and other destination marketing agencies
  • assures implementation and administration of corporate plans including training, quality assurance, and safety protocols
  • develops and implements facility goals in line with management contract and corporate policies
  • plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs all facility activities and personnel
  • assists with development of operating calendar, activity schedules, and projections
  • directs the development and execution of all financial and operating reports
  • performs other duties as assigned
