Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business or public administration or equivalent
- Minimum 5-7 years senior management experience in a Convention Center
- Proven leadership and professional record
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills
- Experience in budgeting and financial management for convention facilities
- Strong interpersonal and labor relations skills
- Knowledge of municipal agency processes and government policy
- Ability to develop and maintain stakeholder relationships
- Commitment to customer service and entrepreneurial mindset
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business or public administration or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of 5-7 years senior management experience within a Convention Center
- Proven successful relationships with organizers of conventions, trade shows, meeting planners, hotel general managers, Convention and Visitor's Bureaus, Chambers of Commerce, and community interest groups
- Demonstrated entrepreneurial focus and customer commitment
- Experience partnering with Convention and Visitor's Bureaus and the hospitality sector to maximize economic impact
- Established record within the exposition, trade show, and meeting/convention industry
- Ability to evaluate and recommend innovative changes in service delivery and organizational structures
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and public speaking experience
- Experience managing convention and exposition facility budgets
- Strong interpersonal skills to provide expertise and guidance to facility owners and tourism officials
- Solid personnel management and labor relations skills
- Familiarity with goal setting, accountable benchmarks, and strategic planning processes
- Understanding of municipal agencies and ability to work effectively within government processes
- Experience with capital plans, facility construction, bonds, and complex budgets
Job Duties
- Aggressively promotes the use of the facility to maximize its utilization
- Negotiates and provides final approval on all lease agreements with vendors, contracts and agreements with event organizers, hosts, managers, and agents
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all pertinent parties to encourage continual and regular use of the facility
- Coordinates facility involvement with Convention and Visitors Bureau, as well as other appropriate destination marketing agencies
- Assures the coordination, implementation and administration of specific plans and programs prescribed by corporate directives, including training and development, quality assurance, energy efficiency, safety/emergency procedures, crowd control and crisis management
- Develops and implements facility goals in accordance with management contract, client objectives, corporate policy, and good business practices
- Plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs all activities and personnel engaged in maintaining and operating the facility
- Assists with the development of the annual operating calendar, activity schedules, and projections for attendance and revenue
- Directs the development, administration and execution of all financial and operating reports including capital expenses, operating revenue, and expense budgets
- Performs other duties as assigned
