Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year accredited college or university
- minimum 5-7 years of senior management experience in a convention center
- ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with event organizers and community partners
- strong leadership and personnel management skills
- excellent communication and public speaking abilities
- experience in budget development and financial management
- knowledge of safety procedures and emergency protocols
- capacity to implement corporate directives and strategic plans
- willingness to work onsite at Tucson Convention Center
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from a four-year accredited college or university with major coursework in business or public administration or equivalent combination of education and experience
- minimum 5-7 years of senior management experience within a convention center
- well-established leadership skills
- successful relationships developed with organizers of conventions, trade shows, meeting planners, hotel general managers, Convention and Visitors Bureaus, Chambers of Commerce, and community interest groups
- entrepreneurial focus and commitment to customer service
- proven record of partnership with Convention and Visitors Bureaus, hotel and hospitality sectors
- experience in exposition, tradeshow, meeting/convention industry
- ability to evaluate service delivery, organization structures, and operating capabilities
- effective written and verbal communication skills including public speaking
- experience in developing and managing budgets of convention and exposition facilities
- superior interpersonal and communicative skills
- solid personnel management and labor relations skills
- familiarity with goal setting and strategic planning processes
- understanding of municipal agencies and policy-administrative-governmental processes
- experience with capital plans, convention facility construction, bonds, and complex budgets
Job Duties
- Aggressively promotes the use of the facility to maximize its utilization
- negotiates and provides final approval on all lease agreements with vendors, contracts and agreements with event organizers, hosts, managers, and agents
- establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all pertinent parties to encourage continual and regular use of the facility
- coordinates facility involvement with Convention and Visitors Bureau, as well as other appropriate destination marketing agencies
- assures coordination, implementation and administration of specific plans and programs prescribed by corporate directives including training and development, quality assurance, energy efficiency, safety/emergency procedures, crowd control and crisis management
- develops and implements facility goals in accordance with management contract, client objectives, corporate policy, and good business practice
- plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs all activities and personnel engaged in maintaining and operating the facility
- assists and coordinates with development of the annual operating calendar, activity schedules, and projections for attendance and/or revenue
- directs development, administration and execution of all financial and operating reports including capital expenses, operating revenue, expense budgets
- performs other duties as assigned
