Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Maritime Administration, Operations Management, Transportation, or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of related terminal operations experience
  • Must obtain Transportation Worker Identification Credential within 30 days of appointment and maintain it
  • Proven leadership and management skills
  • Strong negotiation abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficient in analyzing and reporting financial data
  • Capacity to handle labor relations and dispute resolution
  • Ability to plan strategically and manage budgets
  • Commitment to promoting a safe work environment
  • Flexibility in problem analysis and resolution

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Maritime Administration, Operations Management, Transportation, or related field
  • Over 10 years of terminal operations experience
  • Knowledge of Port Houston initiatives, terminal systems, tariffs, HR policies, and procurement processes
  • Strong leadership and negotiation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently and cross-functionally
  • Ability to communicate effectively at various management levels
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to promote safety and teamwork
  • Familiarity with Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) requirements

Job Duties

  • Identify and implement operational strategic initiatives to meet yearly key performance benchmarks
  • Manage vessel and yard operations to optimize productivity and safety
  • Oversee management of ILA labor costs and lead labor relations and negotiations
  • Lead Customer Service, Gate Operations, and support rail operations and business development
  • Establish and maintain relationships with ocean carriers, agents, brokers, truck lines, and labor
  • Support growth through technology implementation and project execution
  • Evaluate processes and technologies for operational improvements
  • Coordinate operations and maintenance to ensure equipment reliability
  • Provide staffing, training, and supervision of container operations staff including ILA workers
  • Supervise and coordinate adjustments to maintain productive terminal performance
  • Prepare and monitor annual operating budget and analyze financial variances
  • Maintain the capital investment budget and provide financial justification for capital purchases
  • Act as liaison to provide terminal operation visibility to stakeholders
  • Lead safety culture promotion and perform safety audits
  • Manage and recommend changes to tariffs in response to market conditions
  • Promote Port Houston core values and perform other duties as required
