Job Description
The General Manager, Area Service Lead role is a critical leadership position within Yale Hospitality, responsible for overseeing one of the 14 distinguished residential dining halls at Yale University. This full-time, on-site management role involves supervising a team of 25 to 30 unionized staff members, including skilled chefs who craft three meals daily for students, faculty, and staff. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in hotel/restaurant management or related field
- Minimum 5 years of food service management experience
- Ability to supervise and train unionized staff
- Proficient with food service management software and point of sale technology
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Knowledge of sanitation and safety regulations

Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management or related field
- Minimum 5 years of food service management experience
- Experience managing unionized or collective bargaining unit staff preferred
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Proficiency with food service management systems, menu development, inventory and point of sale systems
- Proven project management and organizational capabilities
- Knowledge of large-scale food production and service processes

Job Duties
- Plan, organize, and lead daily operations of the assigned residence for student meals and special event operations
- Provide onsite support to Multi-unit Executive Chef and Residential Operations in design and execution of quality dining experiences including setup and decoration
- Support menu forecasting with executive chef and culinary team
- Collaborate with Residential Cluster leadership to oversee service standards, customer service policies, and food handling and sanitation
- Conduct regular service inspections and evaluations of service, cleanliness, and employee compliance
- Implement and monitor housekeeping, sanitary, and safety rules
- Supervise dining rooms during meal periods and special events and coordinate logistics
- Monitor bar patronage and alcohol usage
- Oversee revenue and expenses for cost centers and assist with inventory control
- Prepare operational reports and analyses with recommendations
- Interview, select, train, and evaluate service and support staff
- Perform other duties as assigned
