Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Outdoor Education, or related field
  • five years of progressively responsible experience in planning, managing, or directing competitive aquatic facilities or affiliated programs
  • five years experience supervising others
  • knowledge of swimming pool operations and recreation programming
  • knowledge of aquatics budget formulation and grant acquisition
  • certified Pool Operator
  • certified Aquatics Facility Operator
  • First Aid, CPR/AED, Water Safety Instructor certifications
  • valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record
  • successful background check
  • pass substance abuse testing
  • willingness to work beyond standard hours including holidays and weekends
  • ability to travel locally using a personal vehicle
  • extensive public and agency contact
  • availability as essential personnel during emergencies

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Outdoor Education, or related field
  • five years of progressively responsible experience in managing competitive aquatic facilities or affiliated programs
  • five years of supervisory experience
  • certified Pool Operator by National Swimming Pool Foundation
  • certified Aquatics Facility Operator by National Recreation and Parks Association
  • American Red Cross certifications in First Aid, CPR/AED, Water Safety Instruction
  • thorough knowledge of swimming pool operations and aquatic class development
  • experience in municipal government setting preferred

Job Duties

  • Oversee daily operations of Hampton Aquaplex and Splashdown Park
  • manage and lead Aquaplex staff
  • develop and expand aquatic programming including competitive events
  • ensure compliance with safety standards and protocols
  • manage facility budgets and secure grants
  • plan and coordinate community and large-scale aquatic events
  • collaborate with the Hampton Convention and Visitor Bureau and other partners to promote facility usage
