Job Description
Fathom Companies is a values-driven hospitality management group headquartered in Portland, Maine. Specializing in lifestyle hotels, Fathom Companies is dedicated to crafting exceptional guest experiences while fostering strong relationships, dynamic leadership, compassion, accountability, resilience, and positivity. The company is committed to investing in its people by empowering leaders and establishing hotels deeply connected to their communities, ensuring that each property maintains a unique identity and delivers a memorable stay for guests. Their approach emphasizes building a positive culture and a service-focused environment that supports innovation and sustained growth within the hospitality industry.
The Sugar House, a highly anticipated riverfront lifestyle hotel located in Winooski, Vermont, represents the latest exciting project under Fathom Companies' portfolio. This new hotel promises thoughtfully designed guestrooms and a signature rooftop bar with stunning views over the river, poised to become one of the region’s premier social destinations. As a fresh establishment, The Sugar House is more than just a property—it is a vision brought to life through a meticulous pre-opening process aimed at cultivating a vibrant hospitality destination. The upcoming opening presents a unique opportunity for an experienced General Manager to lead the entire pre-opening efforts and operational launch.
The General Manager role at The Sugar House is a pivotal executive-level position responsible for shaping the future of the hotel from the ground up. The successful candidate will spearhead strategic, operational, financial, and cultural leadership, overseeing critical hotel functions, including Rooms and Food & Beverage operations, the rooftop bar and restaurant performance, sales and revenue strategies, and community engagement initiatives. This leadership role involves direct accountability for financial performance, P&L management, team development, brand compliance, and guest satisfaction, ensuring that the hotel aligns seamlessly with Tribute Portfolio brand standards and Fathom’s core values.
This opportunity stands out due to its comprehensive leadership scope, encompassing everything from building the team and establishing service standards and SOPs to driving opening timelines and fostering a service-focused culture anchored in excellence from Day One. The General Manager will be the driving force behind The Sugar House’s operational foundation, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations while pushing for exceptional guest satisfaction scores through rigorous quality assurance and brand compliance adherence.
Moreover, the role requires a strong strategic vision for financial management, including budget development, forecasting, and profit optimization, particularly by maximizing revenue streams across guest rooms, food and beverage outlets, and the highly anticipated rooftop bar. In addition to financial acumen, the General Manager will lead human resources efforts such as recruitment, onboarding, leadership development, performance management, and workplace culture enhancement to maintain high associate engagement and retention in a safe, positive environment.
Community involvement and market presence are also critical components of the position. The General Manager will act as the hotel’s ambassador, cultivating local partnerships, and positioning The Sugar House and its rooftop bar as vibrant, premier lifestyle destinations within the Winooski and greater Burlington areas. This is a rare chance to join a growing lifestyle hospitality company and shape a new hotel’s identity and market impact from inception to ongoing operation.
The position offers a starting salary of $125,000 or higher, accompanied by a 15% achievable annual bonus. The benefits package includes 401(k) with company match, health, dental, and vision insurance, life and AD&D insurance, HSA and FSA options, paid time off, professional development support, Marriott hotel discounts, and opportunities for career growth within a dynamic and values-driven hospitality company. This General Manager role provides an exceptional platform for ambitious hospitality professionals looking to lead a major pre-opening initiative and build something truly outstanding in one of Vermont’s most scenic and culturally rich locations.
