Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in hospitality management, business administration, dietetics, nutrition, culinary arts, or a related field or equivalent 5 years food service management experience in a high volume operation
- ServSafe certified within 60 days from date of hire as a condition of employment
- Computer knowledge and efficiency, ability to utilize technology efficiently, including standard computer programs

Job Duties
- Manage approximately 8-12 professional staff, 20-50 bargained-for staff, and 50-150 student staff
- Provide operational and strategic guidance to all unit staff
- Hold self and team accountable for expectations, standards, and department goals
- Direct managers and chefs in the development of staffing schedules
- Develop and oversee a budget of approximately $8 to $17 million
- Lead staff in continuous improvement of dining experience
- recommend new food concepts and programs
- Monitor budgeted food and labor costs
- review budget status with staff
- reviews and analyzes financial reports and creates appropriate plans in response to changes and ensures staff knows their roles and expectations
- Manage cash handling and inventory control procedures
- Oversee staff responsible for nutrition signage and consultations with students with special diets
- Address and resolves customer service issues
- Facilitate unit-level training and meetings
- build morale and emphasize teamwork and engagement
- Enforce proper sanitation standards in compliance with regulations, EHS and Michigan Dining policies and U-M standards
- maintain Michigan Dining records
- Ensure a safe work environment that includes education on proper safety and ergonomic techniques, and provide supplies to ensure employee safety
- Participate with the Directors in the recruitment, selection, training, evaluation and discipline of food service management, supervisory and support staff
- Maintain positive working relationships with AFSCME leadership and employees
