Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from four year college or university and/or demonstrated track record of operational management
  • Five or more years experience in the waste industry preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of equipment for waste collection, processing or disposal
  • Excellent leadership, communication and management skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents including safety rules and procedures
  • Ability to regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds
  • Some travel required depending on organization structure

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five or more years experience in the waste industry preferred
  • Excellent leadership, communication and management skills
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, instruction manuals, reports and correspondence
  • Proficient in planning and operational management
  • Strong analytical skills for financial and operational decision-making
  • Experience with safety and preventive maintenance programs
  • Knowledge of waste collection, processing or disposal equipment
  • Ability to motivate and develop personnel

Job Duties

  • Oversee responsibilities and coordinate efforts of Facility Managers, Sales Manager or individual sales representatives, Administrative personnel and Maintenance Manager
  • Sustain a productive and motivated workforce by screening, selecting, hiring, training, developing and evaluating personnel
  • Adhere to all wage and hour laws and compensate personnel accurately
  • Establish high appearance standards for all employees
  • Ensure safe working conditions for all jobs
  • Implement and promote Safety Program to recognize and reward productive and safe employees
  • Plan and route collection services to best utilize personnel and equipment
  • Implement corporate guidelines concerning the Preventive Maintenance program
  • Establish a container repair, delivery and switch-out program
  • Develop and implement on-going cost control program monitoring buying practices of supplies and services
  • Establish production standards for each phase of operation
  • Promote an accident prevention program
  • Enter payroll bi-weekly
  • Ensure Operations Supervisors use the Full Route Roll-Off Dispatch system
  • Utilize Route Smart system to plan optimized routes
  • Conduct route audits annually
  • Perform Roll Off account profitability analysis semi-annually
  • Use a purchase order system for all purchases
  • Ensure all services provided are billed and revenues collected timely
  • Review profit and loss statements monthly
  • Develop an operations profit plan including income sources, costs, growth objectives, productivity, and profit margins
  • Partner with sales teams to develop sales forecasts
  • Establish pricing guidelines
  • Promote strong customer focus
  • Manage sales force objectives
  • Ensure sales team uses approved software for tracking customers
  • Seek growth and expansion opportunities
  • Adjust to market trends
  • Review and negotiate contracts
  • Participate in local civic affairs
  • Comply with all applicable laws and company policies
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned
