The Senate Sergeant at Arms is a pivotal department within the U.S. Senate, responsible for maintaining the security, order, and operational support of the Senate wing of the U.S. Capitol building. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 1-3 years of relevant experience
- ability to perform physical tasks including walking, bending, crawling, standing for long durations
- ability to carry items over 50 pounds
- ability to work overnight shifts from 11:00 pm to 7:30 am
- ability to operate cleaning and moving equipment
- U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent resident status
- willingness to undergo background and security investigation
- availability to work during government shutdowns, inclement weather, holidays, and weekends
- willingness to wear uniforms and personal protective equipment
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 1-3 years of experience setting up events, moving furniture, and/or office cleaning
- ability to operate a variety of moving and cleaning equipment
- ability to learn to operate an electric pallet jack
- proficiency in relevant cleaning and maintenance skills
- strong teamwork and communication skills
Job Duties
- Set up rooms for meetings, conferences, and banquets on a regular basis
- move furniture, materials, and supplies using appropriate equipment
- clean and restock public restrooms
- clean offices, including kitchenettes, fireplaces, and private restrooms
- remove trash from public and private areas of the Senate side of the Capitol and transport trash to collection site
- maintain and clean equipment
- perform other duties as assigned
