Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Completion of appropriate training programs
  • Increasingly responsible food service supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of school cafeteria operations and large-quantity food preparation
  • Current MCPS Cafeteria Manager test within the last two years
  • Sanitation certification
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to operate commercial food service equipment and move objects weighing 40-60 pounds
  • Valid Maryland noncommercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent
  • Availability for some overtime and bank-related errands using a personal car

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Completion of appropriate food service management training programs
  • Experience in supervisory or management roles in institutional food service settings
  • Knowledge of large quantity food preparation and HACCP guidelines
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
  • Current sanitation certification
  • Valid Maryland noncommercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent

Job Duties

  • Manage and supervise the daily operations of the secondary school cafeteria and central kitchen as needed
  • Train, schedule, assign, supervise, and evaluate cafeteria workers
  • Ensure compliance with nutritional, sanitation, and safety standards
  • Manage inventory, order food and supplies, and control food costs
  • Handle financial transactions including cashiering and bank deposits
  • Utilize computer point-of-sale systems effectively
  • Maintain and analyze data to ensure efficient and cost-effective cafeteria operations
