Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • prior experience in food production or commercial kitchen environment
  • knowledge of food safety regulations including ServSafe
  • ability to read and follow recipes and instructions
  • basic math skills
  • physical ability to perform kitchen tasks including lifting up to 30 pounds
  • ability to stand for extended periods
  • willingness to work some weekends and holidays
  • ability to work with diverse staff and volunteers

Job Duties

  • Assist in the food production and maintenance of the commercial kitchen
  • ensure compliance with applicable regulations, ServSafe program, and local health department regulations
  • assist with receiving, checking temperatures, and putting away deliveries following FIFO guidelines
  • read and follow recipes including multi-step written and oral instructions
  • use math skills to comprehend and manipulate weights and measures
  • operate, maintain, and clean steam, electric and gas cooking equipment
  • monitor equipment and facilitate maintenance activities
  • post relevant information needed for staff and volunteers
  • interact with clients and community sites for coordination and quality assurance
  • understand and comply with all policies, procedures, standards, specifications, guidelines, directives, assignments, and training programs
  • work some weekends and holidays
  • multi-task effectively
  • work with a diverse population of staff, interns, and volunteers
  • demonstrate excellent organizational skills in a fast-paced environment
  • proficient knife skills
  • operate all food service equipment
  • prepare food for large groups
