Job Requirements

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience
  • Licensed Customs Broker or willing to take exam within 3 years
  • 5+ years experience in Customs and Trade Compliance
  • 2+ years experience with FTZ compliance
  • Experience in import/export trade compliance and customs in a multinational environment
  • Skilled at coordinating cross-functional customs and trade compliance efforts
  • Functional expertise in project management and risk analysis
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Leadership skills
  • Presentation and project management skills
  • Ability to interpret technical regulatory documents

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent work experience
  • Licensed Customs Broker or willing to acquire within 3 years
  • Certified Zone Specialist preferred
  • Certified Customs Specialist preferred
  • 5+ years experience in Customs, Trade Compliance, and International Trade
  • 2+ years experience with FTZ compliance
  • Experience in import/export trade compliance, trade security, denied party screening, and customs in a large multinational environment
  • Skilled at coordinating complex customs and trade compliance efforts with cross-functional stakeholders
  • Functional expertise in project management, data analysis, metric reporting, risk analysis, change management
  • Experience leading staff preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and facilitation skills
  • Leadership and influencing skills
  • Presentation and project management skills
  • Ability to generate reports from data
  • Ability to interpret technical documents and regulations

Job Duties

  • Serve as the subject matter expert on Foreign Trade Zones and Customs bonded warehouses in North America
  • Provide assistance and guidance for new FTZ and Customs bonded warehouse requests from Business Development, Operations, and customers
  • Engage with internal stakeholders and external customers to identify potential savings and benefits from DSC FTZ and bonded solutions
  • Support FTZ applications for designations with local FTZ Grantees and the US FTZ Board for DSC sites
  • Collaborate with Customs and Border Protection and government agencies to ensure timely activation of new FTZs with all relevant privileges
  • Own the activation process from start to go live for new FTZ sites including completing FTZ designation and activation applications
  • Support site requests for FTZ layout modifications
  • Develop and deliver training for internal stakeholders on FTZ benefits, processes, Customs regulations and compliance requirements
  • Respond to inquiries from Customs and government agencies regarding DSC FTZs, bonded warehouses, AES/EEI filings, and other Customs offerings
  • Ensure internal system controls are in place across all Customs and Trade Compliance landscape
  • Coordinate with various teams across DHL divisions for smooth implementation of new FTZ activations
  • Support the implementation of FTZ procedure manuals for new and existing sites, ensuring work instructions and SOPs are current
  • Identify compliance risks related to Customs bonded warehouses and FTZ operations, implementing effective mitigation strategies
  • Work with CBP or other government agencies for any compliance reviews or audits
  • Ensure DSC meets all regulatory obligations and escalate gaps to the Director of Customs and Trade compliance
  • Establish and maintain an internal audit program to ensure compliance with Customs regulations
  • Collaborate to monitor and analyze FTZ and Customs compliance performance metrics, driving continuous improvement initiatives
  • Stay informed about changes in international regulations and summarize potential impacts on DSC offerings
  • Maintain and improve North America Customs and Trade Compliance SOPs
  • Assist in establishing and monitoring KPIs for DSC FTZs and bonded warehouses
  • Collaborate with North America and Global teams on DSC North America Export Control activities and Denied Party Screening solutions in partnership with Compliance and Legal teams
