Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Six months to one year of related bakery or food service experience
  • Ability to handle physical workload including lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Availability to work scheduled hours punctually and reliably
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Ability to operate bakery equipment safely
  • Understanding of sanitation and safety protocols
  • Effective communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple tasks
  • Comfort working in environments with temperature extremes and noise

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Over six months to one year of similar or related experience
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Leadership capabilities to operate as a lead with other bakery clerks
  • Knowledge of proper sanitation procedures and safety guidelines

Job Duties

  • Provides prompt, efficient and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store
  • Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether the encounter takes place in the employee's designated department or elsewhere in the store
  • Makes an effort to learn customers' names and to address them by name whenever possible
  • Assists customers by escorting them to products, securing out of reach products, loading or unloading heavy items, making note of and passing along customer suggestions
  • Answers the telephone promptly and provides friendly, helpful service including taking product orders
  • Checks orders for the day and sets up a timeline and production schedule
  • Prepares makeup, bakes, and fries bakery products as needed
  • Reviews the status and appearance of products for freshness and pulls by stale date
  • Invoices and puts away product as instructed by the department manager
  • Anticipates product needs for current and subsequent days
  • Inspects incoming products for quality and quantity
  • Understands bakery equipment use and potential maintenance issues
  • Checks signage for correct labels on ad items
  • Reviews department for safety issues
  • Operates as a lead with bakery clerks
  • Prioritizes orders as per customer and manager request
  • Proofs necessary items
  • Pulls product from freezer or cooler
  • Practices proper sanitation and maintains clean work area
  • Maintains strict adherence to personal hygiene and dress guidelines
  • Adheres to company policies and store guidelines
  • Reports to work on schedule and on time
  • Orders supplies and merchandise as directed
  • Re-merchandises shelves and discards outdated products
  • Writes schedules and ensures employee attendance in absence of bakery manager
  • Assists in other store areas as needed
  • Performs other job-related duties and special projects as required
