Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • previous experience in hospital food preparation preferred
  • ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • ability to demonstrate clear oral and written communication skills
  • ability to effectively plan and prioritize work
  • ability to follow recipes
  • ability to maintain collaborative working relationships to ensure a positive and productive work environment
  • ability to provide exceptional customer service
  • knowledge and ability to operate basic kitchen equipment
  • knowledge of food safety guidelines
  • PC competency, working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel)
  • Servesafe certificate preferred

Job Duties

  • Assists in cooking, set-up, serving and breakdown of catered events
  • cooks meat, fish and fowl in a variety of ways such as baking, roasting, broiling and steaming
  • determines types and quantities of meats, vegetables and soups to be prepared by reviewing planned menus
  • ensures meals are ready at specified times
  • helps with assigned cleaning and date/label duties
  • makes sauces, soups, stews, casseroles and desserts meeting established dietary guidelines
  • measures and mixes ingredients according to approved recipes, using blenders, mixers, grinders, slicers, etc.
  • records patient and guest meal counts
  • records temperatures for refrigerators, freezers and food preparation
  • stocks supplies, assists supervisor with ordering supplies
  • supervises Kitchen workers when washing, trimming or preparing food
  • tests foods being cooked to ensure doneness
  • adjusts heat controls as necessary
  • other duties as assigned
