Job Requirements

- ability to gather, interpret, and report insurance information
- skill in troubleshooting insurance issues
- ability to type 45 words per minute
- ability to learn and use Microsoft Excel, email, Internet, and PowerPoint
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- prior experience in a medical office or clinical administrative role
- knowledge of clinic policies and procedures
- familiarity with medical terminology and insurance practices
- proficiency with computer programs and electronic medical record systems
- strong written and verbal communication skills
- ability to handle multi-line telephone systems
- strong customer service skills
- ability to manage scheduling systems accurately
- knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 coding beneficial but not required
- ability to handle confidential information appropriately
- skill in basic arithmetic for financial transactions
Job Duties
- Welcomes patients, clients, and visitors and directs them to appropriate departments
- promptly and professionally answers telephone calls and routes calls or offers voice mail
- phones or tasks employees to meet patient needs
- facilitates patient flow and communicates delays
- follows safety and security policies and maintains confidentiality
- screens solicitors courteously
- explains financial requirements and collects payments
- keeps reception and waiting areas clean and organized
- monitors medical supplies and orders accordingly
- schedules and reschedules patient appointments
- uses manual and computerized systems to manage scheduling
- maintains accurate scheduling records
- communicates patient concerns to clinical staff
- applies customer service principles for patient interactions
- processes requests for release of medical records
- prepares charts for appointments
- directs referrals and records to appropriate staff
- verifies appointments and procedures
- schedules tests ordered by physicians
- operates multi-line switchboard
- scans and imports paperwork into EMR system
- manages returned mail and documents it
- monitors call queue and reports high volumes
- performs other assigned duties
