Kentucky Derby Museum is a prominent 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization located on the historic grounds of Churchill Downs Racetrack, the site of the prestigious Kentucky Derby. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- must pass criminal background check
- able to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- able to write routine reports and correspondence
- able to speak effectively before groups
- able to calculate figures such as discounts, total charges, and change
- able to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions
- able to handle problems involving many variables
- access to reliable transportation
- knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook
- racetrack license paid for by the Museum
- available to work additional hours during Derby season and other major events
- available for weekend shifts
- able to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, reach, lift up to 25 pounds
- able to navigate crowded work environment and manage workload efficiently
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- knowledge of Kentucky Derby and Thoroughbred Racing history
- strong customer service and communication skills
- proficiency with point-of-sale systems and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook
- ability to manage reservations, schedules, and guest information
- capability to engage guests with enthusiasm and passion
- problem-solving and empathy in handling guest concerns
- organizational skills
- ability to apply common sense to complex situations
Job Duties
- Welcome visitors, partners, and vendors
- answer guest questions and concerns
- collect and ring-in individual and group admissions
- upsell Museum specialty tours
- maintain the Front Desk and Lobby areas
- open and close front desk registers
- follow cash handling procedures
- keep records according to operational guidelines
- model and uphold KDM Winning Service standards
- process visitor orders over phone and front desk POS system
- provide information about Museum and local attractions
- assist with gathering guests for tours and programming
- make daily announcements over PA system
- utilize point-of-sale and other technology platforms
- stay informed on Museum exhibits, events, tours, and programs
- apply cross-selling and upselling techniques to increase sales
- answer main telephone line and direct calls
- perform opening and closing duties
- assist with evening events as needed
- handle guest service issues and escalate when required
