Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • previous front desk, reservations, concierge, bell desk, or night audit experience
  • legal authorization to work in the United States
  • ability to work morning, mid-evening, and evening shifts
  • excellent communication skills
  • proficiency with front desk computer operations
  • attention to detail
  • ability to handle cash transactions
  • knowledge of safety and emergency procedures

Job Duties

  • possess a thorough knowledge of check-in and check-out of guests
  • to be completely familiar with all front desk computer operations and procedures for arrivals and departures
  • complete knowledge of the hotel and surrounding area
  • maintain control of all room keys and departmental keys and ensure sign out procedures are followed
  • know how to handle walk-ins, stay-over and room charges
  • know how to post charges to guests, master bills, and other applicable accounts
  • handle safe keys in accordance with property's procedure
  • know room and rate policies and adjust packages rates for fewer or additional night stay
  • know how to look at reservations and future availability
  • have knowledge of room rates, packages and discounts available
  • be able to handle group arrivals and know check-in and check-out requirements
  • ensure no check-outs with balances due
  • familiarize guests on hotel facilities
  • read and initial the logbook at the beginning of shifts and read current memos
  • be responsible for own cash drawer and report discrepancies
  • keep housekeeping informed of early departures, late check-outs and special requests
  • welcome each return guest and acknowledge them
  • know all safety and emergency procedures
  • attend all front desk meetings
  • conduct weekly key inventories
  • have knowledge of telephone, mail, and message systems
  • know all forms and vouchers used at the front desk and inform supervisor of shortages
  • consistently fill out feedback forms for guests
  • keep supervisors informed of hotel and front desk concerns
  • know operations of other front office departments
  • know department heads and functions
  • perform other tasks as directed by the front desk supervisor
