Job Requirements

Job Qualifications
- One full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to GS/GW-05 level performing wildland fire dispatch duties
- Operating wildland fire dispatch computer programs
- Determining fire resource needs
- One full year of graduate education directly related to wildland fire dispatch work
- Combination of specialized experience and graduate education directly related to the position
- Performing lead wildland fire dispatch duties at GS/GW-06 level for GW-07 grade
- Providing incident logistical support information and making resource recommendations
- Determining appropriate resource responses to incidents
- Knowledge of wildland fire behavior and safety protocols
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
Job Duties
- Coordinates aviation dispatch operations including aircraft limitations, flight planning, and aviation safety
- Determines appropriate resource response to incidents and dispatches personnel, equipment, aircraft, and supplies
- Anticipates fire suppression needs and determines resource allocation
- Operates or directs the operation of various dispatch telecommunications systems
- Processes and interprets weather information such as spot weather forecasts, lightning detection, and fuel moisture levels to determine burning indices, preparedness levels, and staffing
- Performs and directs data input into fire-related computer applications including incident qualification records, fire reporting systems, and automated dispatch systems
- Provides information and consultation to supervisors, government agencies, and other entities
- Provides logistical support information and resource use recommendations
- Makes initial and extended attack decisions in response to fire reports
- Coordinates liaison activities between dispatch offices and geographical coordination centers
- Coordinates fire training, orientation, and provides on-the-job training for other dispatchers
